ROME, March 18 (Xinhua) -- An Antiguan container ship ran aground off Italy's Sicily, and the 16 crew onboard were all rescued, Rai state television said on Sunday.The 126-meter vessel ran aground off Straits of Messina, a narrow passage between the eastern tip of Sicily and the southern tip of Calabria in southern Italy, after reportedly hitting some reefs.
All the 16 crew onboard the Hc Rubina, which was empty and came from the port of Iskenderun in Turkey, were rescued in good health conditions, Rai said.
Divers of local coastal guard found a leak in the prow which may have been caused by the crash, but they said the ship was not at risk of sinking.
Two inquiries have been opened over the accident, whose causes are not clear. Read More
