London Ontarion Riots: Student Violence Explodes In Canada

St Patrick's Day turned violent in Canada when revelers set a large street blaze in a scene police likened to a war zone.

Partygoers, mostly believed to be students from universities in London, Ontario, flipped over a TV news van and set it alight.

They were driven back when some in the crowd pelted them with rocks and bottles, District Fire Chief Jim Holmes said.

But the vehicle exploded into flame. The crowd of up to 1,000 people fed the fire with furniture, mattresses, fences, uprooted trees, a large TV set, and even a 20-pound (nine-kilogram) propane tank.

Authorities said the crowd hurled bricks and beer bottles at police officers and refused to allow fire crews to douse the blaze.

Police and fire crews made the decision to stand back to avoid escalating the situation further. Read More
