The Pacific Pines man appeared in Southport Magistrates Court this morning after he was arrested by Townsville police at his Gold Coast home yesterday.
The arrest comes after the man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was booked two weeks ago in Coomera for drink-driving.
Police alleged the boy was assaulted by his mother's partner between January and April last year before passing away on April 16.
It is understood police from the Child Protection and Investigation Unit have been looking into the incident since April last year.
Information of the offence had not previously been released due to the sensitive nature of the criminal investigation.
It is believed the young boy suffered several severe injuries as a result of the attack and was taken from his Annandale home to Townsville Hospital by paramedics but died a short time later.
A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said it was a bitter-sweet feeling to make an arrest after 11 months. Read More
